An Early New Year
My knee has finally felt good enough for over a week that I’m confident to get back to training. Yesterday I started an eight-week calisthenics program and I’m looking forward to it kicking me back into shape. Today we hit the legs hard, so that will be quite the adventure. I imagine I’ll be walking funny most of the rest of the week.
Most people don’t start programs like this close to the Holidays what with all the parties and days off and such, but I’ve been out of the gym for too long and need to get going. Especially with another tournament coming up in late January. This should be a good way to get in overall shape and re-strengthen the leg in time for that.
I’ve also set up my NASM-CPT retest for this coming Friday. After a week-plus of not studying I took a practice test and scored pretty good on it. I’ll be reviewing all week in anticipation of getting my score two points higher so I can pass.
It has been an interesting year to this point. I executed a training plan to get in shape for Nationals in July that worked perfectly. I lost the weight I wanted and increased my endurance enough that the altitude in Denver wasn’t a problem for me. But then I torn my meniscus and had to back off training, which was frustrating.
Add in getting Finn and studying for the NASM-CPT and it’s been just crazy enough to keep me on my toes. Last night, in fact, I got home from a weekly “guys night” early so I could get a solid night’s sleep to help with studying. And of course Finn decided to have an upset stomach so I was up several times through the night. But, no matter, I’ll keep plugging away.
Getting my certification is going to be a big milestone for the year. And then healing from the meniscus tear will be another big one for the coming months. I have a minor-enough injury that it could heal on its own, but at the same time I don’t intend to completely shut it down so that may delay the process. The tournament in January will be a great indicator of how the process is going.
Lots to look forward to as 2021 comes to an end. Thank you for journeying with me!
